Earlier this month the World Congress against Fascism, Neofascism and other similar expressions was held in Caracas, Venezuela. Solidarity organisations, social movements and political parties from over 190 countries participated in the two day long conference. Amongst the numerous political outcomes of the congress was the declaration that the weekend of the 28th/29th of September would be an international weekend of solidarity demonstrations, a demand which Rock Around the Blockade supporters answered enthusiastically!
In her opening speech, the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, emphasized that humanity is currently facing “one of the cruelest threats, which is the global fascist network, I call it the international cartel of fascism.” Rodríguez urged the peoples of the world to combat the extremist current of fascism by creating an international antifascist movement. “We must unite as one mind, as one soul to fight and not allow fascism to extend its tentacles on this planet, because it is the worst threat humanity faces today, alongside the climate emergency, both resulting from a single system, a single model of production, which is capitalism and its neoliberal and imperialist development.” This of course comes from a country currently under political assault from fascist movements which seek to delegitimise the most recent election results.
Supporters in Middlesborough held a street stall in solidarity with Venezuela against fascism.
Supporters in London demonstrated in Wood Green and held an open microphone for supporters of Venezuela to make their voices heard!
Supporters in Birmingham held a demonstration in the city centre, engaging the public with their Venezuela solidarity message!
